Blog Introduction: Embarking on a trek to Salkantay is an adventure of a lifetime. And, while the stunning landscapes and breathtaking biodiversity will undoubtedly capture your attention, it’s the people who accompany you during the trek who will make your journey truly unforgettable. At Salkantay Trekking, we take pride in our team of experienced guides, trek chefs, assistants, and horsemen who help our guests navigate the rugged terrain, serve delicious meals, and make every moment of the trek a memorable experience. In this blog post, we introduce you to the smiling and friendly staff of Salkantay Trekking and share their activities during the trek.
Who makes up the trek crew?
Every trek group at Salkantay is accompanied by a support team consisting of a trained guide, trek chef, assistant guides, and local horsemen. Together, they work as a joint effort to ensure that every trekker has a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience. The guide and trek chef play a lead role in overall supervision and control of the trek group, while the assistants help with fetching water from the spring, carrying the packed lunch, and other tasks. The horsemen not only herd horses but also help pitch tents and serve as a man of errand. The horses carry the tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, food supply, cookware, gas, stoves, chairs, tables, and your trekking gear.
How many staff accompany each trek group?
The number of staff members who accompany each trek group will depend on the size of the group. For a trek group of two people, there will be five staff members – a guide, trek chef, an assistant, and 2-3 horsemen, and 8 horses to carry your equipment and supplies. For a group of 12 persons, there will be 11 support staff – a guide, chef, 4 assistants, 5 horsemen, and 40 horses. Regardless of the group size, the staff members work tirelessly to provide unmatched service and assistance throughout the trek.
