DIFFICULTY: Does involve some narrow trails amongst archaeological site like: Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Machu Picchu and the Amazon Jungle, so sturdy footwear is required to help you enjoy it fully.
TRAIN OPTIONS: Expedition Option: This is the cheapest, but still a very comfortable way of getting to Machu Picchu.
VISTADOME OPTION: Vistadome train is faster, has snack-service, bigger windows and is generally a more comfortable experience; if you prefer this service, please let us know at the booking time (Extra US$30pp).
HOTEL OPTIONS: We use 3-star hotels if you would like higher level, please let us know.

SHORT ITINERARY

DAY 1: Arrival to Cusco

Arrival to Cusco at any time.

DAY 2: Sacred Valley of the Incas

Full-day travelling through the Green Sacred Valley of the Incas; we will visit the Market of Pisac.

DAYS 3-4-5-6: Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

4-day trek the 45km of Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, all included you must carry your daypack with your camera and snacks.

NOTE: The passengers who are not able or nor interested in the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu for spending 2 days in Cusco, and then you’ll travel by train to the town of “Aguas Calientes”, and the next morning, you’ll take the bus to Machu Picchu entrance and join the group for Machu Picchu tour. If you decide to do not make the trek, we need to know prior to your departure in order to obtain train tickets.

DAY 7: Free day

Enjoy the city of Cusco or take one of our tours.

DAYS 8-9: Jungle trip – Puerto Maldonado

Explore the deepest of the Amazon with a botanic as a tour guide.

DAY 10: Departure from Cusco.

Transfer to the airport.

DETAILED TOUR ITINERARY – PERU INCA TRAIL

DAY 1: Arrival to Cusco

The Peru Inca Trail begins once you arrive to Cusco at any time; however, we must know your flight details. We will meet you at the airport and transfer to your hotel. You can enjoy the city of Cusco doing optionaly the guided city tour in the afternoon.  Cusco is the continent’s oldest continuously inhabited city.

DAY 2: Sacred Valley of the Incas

The Sacred Valley tour begins at 08:30 a.m. We will pick you up from the hotel and travel toward the Sacred Valley of the Incas which was an important cradle of food for the Incas, the Sacred Valley is a lush agricultural region that continues to supply the city of Cusco with much of its production especially with corn and vegetables. Visit the extraordinary Pisac Inca ruins and the colourful artisan market where you can purchase some handicrafts directly from the producers.

The Sacred Valley tour finishes in the picturesque village of Ollantaytambo, we will visit also the Ollantaytambo Inca ruins that is known as the best surviving example of Inca urban planning and engineering. It is admired for its huge steep terraces guarding the Inca Fortress and for being one of the few places where the Spaniards lost a major battle during the conquest. We will spend the night in this small town before heading out for the start of the trek the next morning.

DAYS 3-4-5-6: Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

After breakfast, we’ll take our tourist bus for one hour to Pisqhak’ucho or Km 82, here we’re gonna start the 4 day-Inca Trail to Machu Picchu considered physically challenging but worthy, It is a 45 km of distance, with 2 high passes to be crossed, one of which reaches an elevation of 4,200 masl (Dead woman’s pass) and 4,000 masl (Runku pass); The trail is often steep, and it may rain even during the dry season.

Temperatures change constantly: during the day is dry hot (18°C to 26°C) and at night may fall below zero, so it is important to come prepared. Porters carry the majority of the gear for the trek in duffel bags that we provide, so those passengers doing the trek only carry a small daypack with water, rain gear, snacks, a camera, etc. We will pass several Inca ruin, the first of which is “Llactapata” (up city); “Patawasi” (up house), “Runkuraqhay” (round balcony); “Sayacmarka” (inaccessible town); “Phuyupatamarka” (town over the cloud) and “Wiñayhuayna” (young forever).

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu goes through beautiful scenery like: cloud forest, over the mountains, through high Andean valleys, etc. On the final day of the trek, we’ll climb the steps to the Sun Gate overlooking the peaks that surround Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu was discovered by Mr. Hiram Bingham at 1911 and he assured that he found the famous Vilcabamba.

DAY 7: Free day

Today is a free day, you can explore Cusco and enjoy coffee at the Main Square; or you can take extra tour like: whitewater rafting, horseback riding and mountain bike.

DAYS 8-9: Jungle trip – Puerto Maldonado

After breakfast, we’ll transfer you to the airport and flight 45 minutes from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado, located in the lowlands of the Amazon jungle; then travel 2 hours by motorized canoe to our lodge located near Madre de Dios River. Puerto Maldonado is the region’s principal city and there is serviced by air from the capital and from Cusco.

The city of Puerto Maldonado is placed at the confluence of the Madre de Dios and Tambopata Rivers, and is booming tropical frontier town. Its principal activities are gold mining, agriculture and ecotourism. After a brief stop in the town, we’ll depart by motorized canoe to our jungle lodge. The lodge itself combines native architectural style and materials with low-impact eco-friendly technology. Rooms are simple but comfortable, with mosquito netting, flush toilets, shower (no hot water). Here, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from them not only about the area’s rich flora and fauna, but also about their extensive practical uses for medicinal plants and other forest plant resources, through traditional techniques for building, fishing, and hunting.

DAY 10: Departure from Cusco

After your breakfast in the lodge, we will return to Puerto Maldonado and fly back to Cusco; if you prefer you can fly back to Lima.
