DESCRIPTION FOR PRIVATE SALKANTAY TREK
Five-day Private Salkantay Trek offers the opportunity to escape the crowds, to venture the high alpine pastures to the pass at 4,600m / 15091ft and into the deep forests. The emphasis of this trek is the sense of exploration and solitude we feel on this surprisingly remote trek, together with the thrill of trekking to the base of one of the most iconic mountains in the Machu Picchu national park. Starting our trek in the lower foothills of the Soraypampa community, we ascend through high Andean valley and continuing through the pristine forests to the lost city of the Incas – Machu Picchu.
Our Private Salkantay Trek culminates in Machu Picchu where you’ll receive a guided tour and you’ll enjoy sweeping panoramic views of the Vilcabamba mountain Range and Machu Picchu itself. From Machu Picchu, you have the opportunity to ascend towards Huayna Picchu Mountain and enjoy the extraordinary views of the zone.

SHORT ITINERARY FOR PRIVATE SALKANTAY TREK
DAY 1: Suyroccocha camp:
First of all, we’ll pick you up from your Cusco hotel and head to Sayllapata (one hour beyond Mallepata village); we commence the trek up to Salkantay pampa where lunch will be served and after the lunch we climb up to Suysuccocha camp; this camp will be the coldest. Optional explore the lagoon of Umantay.
DAY 2: Chaullay camp:
We’ll cross over the Salcantay Pass at 4,600 m / 150991ft, then we’ll descend to Chaullay camp.
DAY 3: Playa Sawayaco camp:
Ttrekking through the cloud forest observing stunning flora and fauna, we also will pass small communities and splendid waterfalls where you can take freshen up. In the camp site, the guide will resolve to camp here or continue to the town of “Santa Teresa” where there is a Natural Hot Springs.
DAY 4: guas Calientes:
Arrive to the town of “Aguas Calientes” and have accommodation in the hotel.
DAY 5: Machu Picchu:
Whole day can be dedicated to explore the stunning Machu Picchu; in the afternoon, we’ll take the train to return to Cusco, arriving there in the evening; you will be transferred to your hotel.
FULL ITINERARY
DETAILED ITINERARY FOR PRIVATE SALKANTAY TREK
DAY 1: Drive from Cusco to Mollepata – Sayllapata / trek to Suyroccocha:
The adventure begins at 06:00 a.m once we pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and transfer you to the village of Mollepata where we will stop for 30 minutes to have breakfast and purchase some items for the trek; from Mollepata, we’ll continue one hour by car to Sayllapata (starting point of the trek); here we will meet our “arrieros” (horseman and also the horses); then, we will start the trek accompanied by an experienced bilingual tour guide (English & Spanish).
Mules loaded our complete luggage; we will also have one horse for emergency, you will trek carrying a small bag with snacks and water through high valley with exuberant Andean vegetation until we arrive to Salkantay Pampa where we’ll stop for our lunch and then, we’ll continue by the shadows of the Salkantay Mountain until our camp of Suyruccocha. This camp is considered the coldest because it is close to the Salkantay Mountain. In addition we’ll explore the Umantay Lagoon.

DAY 2: Trek from Suyroccocha to Chaullay
From Suyroccocha, the trail ascend slowly towards the Salkantay Pass (4,600 masl/15,091 ft) from where you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the mountains and the imposing snowy peaks of Salcantay Mountain (6,271 m / 20574ft) which is known as the second highest Mountain of Cusco region. After we rest and take the pictures, we’ll descend through old moraine for 2 hours until Houarocmachay, here we stop to have our lunch and then, we’ll continue descending 3 hours more toward the warm valley of Chaullay camp here.

DAY 3: Trek from Chaullay to Playa Sawayaco
Today we Leave Chaullay camp and we’ll continue trekking through the high jungle which is a great habitat for birds and flowers, we will cross the Lluskamayo River and a variety of little streams. Today, we will pass through dense vegetated valley and have wonderful views of waterfalls where you can take cold shower; we will see tropical and sub-tropical fruits and plantations. So, we will camp at Playa Sawayaco (2,500 masl) with a warm climate. Here, the guide will resolve if the group will camp here or continue to the town of “Santa Teresa” where there is a natural hot springs and enjoy the well-deserved soothing water.

DAY 4: Trek from Playa Sawayaco to Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes
Today, we’ll start at 07:30 a.m; from “Playa Sawayaco” the trail climb for 3 hours to the Inca ruins of LLactapata from where we will see the Mountains of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu; along the way, we will observe coffee, banana and passion fruit plantations, beautiful landscapes as well diverse flora and fauna. At Llactapata, we will have time to rest and enjoy the scenery and then, we’ll descend through tropical farmland to “Hydroelectric” zone where we will have lunch. So, the last part of the trek will be approximately 2 hours walk by the railway to the town of “Aguas Calientes”. Upon arrival, you will be accommodated in the hotel. You’ll have some rest and be ready for the next day.

DAY 5: “Aguas Calientes” – Machu Picchu – Cusco
Today we’ll take the first bus up to Machu Picchu; we will have a complete guided tour of this magnificent Inca Temple, leisure time to explorer on your own. Finally, in the afternoon, we will take the train to return to Cusco arriving there in the evening and you will be transferred to your hotel.
Furthermore, the tour at Machu Picchu will last for two hours during which will visit the most important places like: the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Condor, the Temple of Mother Earth, the Sundial, the cemetery, etc
