Salkantay Trek is an adventure trekking route in Peru that ends in the Inca Santuary of Machu Picchu; the wonder of the world; it’s and an alternative to the classic Inca Trail. Recently was considered by the Adventure magazine to be one of the ten tops trekking routes. The trek crosses the Salkantay Pass at 4600m; descends into the cloud forest and passes the Inca ruins Llactapata, and reaches to Machu Picchu.

Highlights of this particular trek are the stunning combination of Inca ruins, magnificent mountains, exotic vegetation and extraordinary ecological variety. The trail goes over high pass with unforgettable views, through cloud forest, and finally to Machu Picchu
Salkantay Trek 5 day Group Service

Our standard 5 day group service trek is the most popular of the Salkantay Trek that we offer. With this service you join one of our groups so you will find yourself trekking with a variety of like-minded people from all over the world. This service is perfect for individuals, couples and small groups of friends.

Inca Trail Prices: US$450

The prices INCLUDES the combined Salkantay Trek and Machu Picchu entrance fee, 2-buss from Aguas CAlientes to Machu Picchu, return on tourist train Expedition Class from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, Bus from Ollantaytambo to Cusco, Guides, Horeses to carry the camping equipment, food, camping equipment and all local sales taxes (18%). Discounts:

For Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu we offer US$25 discount on the above prices to students with a valid International Student Identity Card (ISIC) and to children/youths under the age of 18 years old (scans of your ISIC card or child’s passport must be provided at the time of paying the trek deposit in order to qualify for the discount).

If request a student discount you must bring your ISIC card on the trek and your card must be valid on the date of trek departure. Without a valid ISIC card government authorities will not allow you to start the trek and you will not be entitled to a refund.

We also offer for the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu a US$20 per person discount for group bookings of 4 persons or more, provided just one person in the group is responsible for making the booking and sending the trek deposit.

Trek Permits:

For Salkantay Trek for now there are no limits on number of visitor; but for Machu Picchu is limited so that, is strongly important to reserve long in advance through certificated tour operator as: SUNRISE PERU TREK. We managed to obtain permits for ALL of our clients

Incredible hike. Amazing views. Our guide Henry had tons of knowledge about the history of the Incas which he shared with us during the hike. We started of with a 6 hour hike trought the jungle and mountains, stopped at various Inca locations along the way to learn its history. Had some nice lunch and snack breaks and enjoyed the amazing views from the mountains. Finally we reached Machu Picchu trought the Sun Gate, absolutley unforgettable coming up that mountain top and get to look down on Machu Picchu in the valley below. Day 2 we got to go in to the Inca city for a closer look. Dinners, accomodations and transport was well planned and our tour guide Henry was 10/10. All in all an amazing experience and would definetly do it all over again.

This was totally awesome. We could not have been looked after better. Carlos our guide was fun, loved his job and contagiously shared his passion for the mountains and the Peruvian culture. We learnt so much about the natural environment we were in. The organisation for the trip was amazing. The food cooked by marcos was incredible. It was made so special by not being with cries of people; stopping in local villages to sleep for the night. He even got us up to Machu Picchu for sunrise with virtually no other people there. There are no words to describe the experience. Just an incredible and I would totally recommend it. Thank you.

I just finished the Salkantay Trek with Henry, one of the guides with Sunrise Peru. I have done a little hiking in different parts of the world and guides can make or break a trip and Henry is one who makes it. He is very passionate about the land on which you are walking, the people of this region and their cultural, their history and the evolution of Peru. He is very knowledgeable. He can and will, happily field all manner of questions about both the history of the Quechua people and modern day Peru. A gentlemen looking out for the welfare of his group and taking every step to make your trip more enjoying without being over bearing which it can often be. The experience was enriched by his leadership on the trip. I would suggest you ask for him if you’re in the area. One other tip. Ask Sunrise Peru to start you at the low point not the high point !
